Description

Human CTSA ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human CTSA ELISA kits are used to detect Cathepsin A (CTSA) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CTSA is a lysosomal serine carboxypeptidase, also known as the protective protein for beta-galactosidase, that is found in the lysosomes of most tissues. It associates with beta-galactosidase and neuraminidase (NEU1) in a multienzyme complex, where it stabilises both enzymes and supports their activity, and it also acts as an activator of NEU1. Independently of this role, CTSA has carboxypeptidase and deamidase activity and can process bioactive peptides such as the tachykinins. Defects in CTSA cause galactosialidosis, a lysosomal storage disorder in which beta-galactosidase and neuraminidase are secondarily deficient, producing coarse facial features, cherry red spots, skeletal changes and vacuolated lymphocytes.
