Description

Human CTSS ELISA Kit

Human CTSS ELISA kits are used to detect Cathepsin S (CTSS) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. CTSS, or cathepsin S, is a lysosomal cysteine protease of the papain family that is expressed mainly in antigen-presenting cells such as dendritic cells, B cells and macrophages. Unlike many cathepsins it keeps activity at neutral pH. Its central role is to degrade the invariant chain from MHC class II molecules, which allows peptide loading and antigen presentation to CD4 T cells, and its specificity partly resembles that of cathepsin L. Cathepsin S can also remodel extracellular matrix and has been shown to activate the receptor MRGPRX1 to produce itch. Increased cathepsin S has been associated with autoimmune disease, atherosclerosis, neuropathic pain and tumour invasion, and it is therefore a research target in immunology and inflammation.
