Description

Human DCD ELISA Kit

Human DCD ELISA kits are used to detect Dermcidin (DCD) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. DCD, or dermcidin, is a small secreted protein that is produced exclusively by the eccrine sweat glands and released into sweat, where it is proteolytically processed into several peptides. One of them, DCD-1, is an antimicrobial peptide that acts during early bacterial colonisation of the skin: it assembles into hexameric complexes that insert into the membranes of pathogens, forming anion channels that disturb the membrane potential, and it is active against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and some fungi, over a wide range of pH and salt concentrations. A longer fragment has been described as proteolysis-inducing factor in cancer cachexia, and dermcidin expression has been reported in some tumours, for example breast cancer.
