Description

Human DCP ELISA Kit

Human DCP ELISA kits are used to detect Des-gamma carboxyprothrombin (DCP) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. DCP, des-gamma-carboxyprothrombin, also known as PIVKA-II (protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist-II), is an abnormal form of prothrombin in which the glutamic acid residues in the N-terminal Gla domain are not fully gamma-carboxylated. Prothrombin is produced by the liver and normally requires vitamin K-dependent carboxylation to bind calcium and phospholipids and function in blood coagulation. DCP is produced when carboxylation is impaired, either by vitamin K deficiency or antagonism, or by malignant hepatocytes with defective carboxylase activity. It is therefore used as a tumor marker: elevated levels have been associated with hepatocellular carcinoma, where they correlate with tumor size and vascular invasion, and they may also rise in vitamin K deficiency and with warfarin therapy.
