Description

Human DCT ELISA Kit

Human DCT ELISA kits are used to detect Dopachrome Tautomerase (DCT) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. DCT, or dopachrome tautomerase, also known as tyrosinase-related protein 2, is a melanogenic enzyme found in the melanosomes of melanocytes and in pigmented cells of the retina. It acts in the melanin biosynthesis pathway downstream of tyrosinase, catalysing the conversion of L-dopachrome into 5,6-dihydroxyindole-2-carboxylic acid, which influences the type and quality of eumelanin produced. Variants affecting the gene cause oculocutaneous albinism type 8, with mild hypopigmentation of skin and hair and ocular features such as nystagmus and reduced visual acuity. Because it is highly expressed in melanocytic cells, DCT is used as a melanocyte lineage marker in pigmentation research and has been studied as an antigen in melanoma.
