Description

Human DDC ELISA Kit

Human DDC ELISA kits are used to detect Dopa Decarboxylase (DDC) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. DDC, or dopa decarboxylase, is a pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzyme also known as aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase. It is expressed in neurons and in tissues including the liver, kidney and gut. DDC catalyses the decarboxylation of L-DOPA to dopamine and of 5-hydroxytryptophan to serotonin, and so carries out a step in the biosynthesis of both catecholamine and serotonin neurotransmitters, which are also precursors of noradrenaline, adrenaline and melatonin. Inherited deficiency of the enzyme causes aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase deficiency, a neurometabolic disorder with developmental delay, hypotonia and movement abnormalities. DDC is also relevant to Parkinson disease treatment, since it converts levodopa to dopamine, and altered expression has been described in neuroendocrine tumours.
