Description

Human DSP ELISA Kit

Human DSP ELISA kits are used to detect Desmoplakin (DSP) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. DSP, or desmoplakin, is a large plakin-family protein that is an obligate component of the desmosomal plaque, found in epithelia and in cardiac muscle. Its N-terminus binds the desmosomal proteins plakoglobin and plakophilins, while its C-terminus attaches to keratin filaments in epithelia or desmin filaments in the heart, so it anchors intermediate filaments to desmosomes and provides the structural integrity needed for cell-cell adhesion and resistance to mechanical stress. It is expressed as two splice forms, DPI and DPII. Mutations in the desmoplakin gene cause striate palmoplantar keratoderma, skin fragility with woolly hair, and cardiomyopathies such as arrhythmogenic and dilated cardiomyopathy. Desmoplakin is also an autoantigen in paraneoplastic pemphigus.
