Description

Human ELA4 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human ELA4 ELISA kits are used to detect Elastase 4 (ELA4) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. ELA4, elastase 4, is listed with the alternative names chymotrypsin C and caldecrin, and refers to a pancreatic serine protease secreted by acinar cells as an inactive precursor that is activated by trypsin in the intestine. It cleaves peptide bonds after hydrophobic residues, and it also degrades and regulates other digestive enzymes, notably by cleaving trypsinogen and trypsin, and so protects the pancreas against premature enzyme activation. The related caldecrin activity has been described as lowering serum calcium by inhibiting bone resorption. Loss-of-function variants in the chymotrypsin C gene have been associated with chronic pancreatitis, so the enzyme is studied in pancreatic physiology and pancreatitis.
