Description

Human F12 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human F12 ELISA kits are used to detect Coagulation Factor XII (F12) in plasma and other biological samples. F12, or coagulation factor XII (Hageman factor), is a serum glycoprotein made mainly in the liver that circulates as an inactive zymogen. On contact with negatively charged surfaces it is activated and starts the intrinsic pathway of coagulation, where it converts prekallikrein to kallikrein, which in turn cleaves factor XII to alpha-factor XIIa and then beta-factor XIIa. Alpha-factor XIIa activates factor XI. Factor XII also participates in fibrinolysis and in the generation of bradykinin and angiotensin. Deficiency prolongs clotting time in laboratory tests but is usually asymptomatic, and certain variants are associated with hereditary angioedema type 3, so factor XII is studied in thrombosis, inflammation and vascular permeability.
