Description

Human fFN ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human fFN ELISA kits are used to detect Fetal Fibronectin (fFN) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. fFN, fetal fibronectin, is a glycoprotein variant of fibronectin produced by alternative splicing of the FN1 gene that carries an oncofetal domain. Fibronectin is a high molecular weight extracellular matrix protein that binds integrins, collagen and heparin, and in the placenta the fetal form acts as a kind of biological glue that helps attach the fetal membranes to the uterine lining. It is normally found in cervicovaginal secretions in early pregnancy and again near term, but it is not usually present between about 24 and 34 weeks. Its presence during that period, when the membranes are disrupted, has been associated with a higher risk of spontaneous preterm birth, so a negative result is considered a useful reassurance.
