Description

Human FGb ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human FGb ELISA kits are used to detect Fibrinogen Beta (FGb) in plasma and other biological samples. FGb, the fibrinogen beta chain, is one of the three polypeptides, with alpha and gamma, that make up fibrinogen, a large plasma glycoprotein synthesised in the liver. Thrombin removes fibrinopeptide B from the beta chain to produce fibrin monomers, which polymerise into the insoluble fibrin matrix that is a main component of blood clots and is central to haemostasis. Fibrin also stabilises wounds and guides cell migration during early repair, protects against IFNG-mediated haemorrhage in infection, and maternal fibrinogen is essential for successful pregnancy. Variants in the gene cause congenital afibrinogenaemia and dysfibrinogenaemia, which can appear as bleeding, thrombosis or no symptoms. Plasma fibrinogen rises as an acute-phase response and has been associated with cardiovascular risk.
