Description

Human GAL ELISA Kit

Human GAL ELISA kits are used to detect Galanin (GAL) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. GAL, galanin, is a neuropeptide cleaved from a prepropeptide that also yields galanin message-associated peptide, and it is widely distributed in the central and peripheral nervous systems. It acts as a hormone and neuromodulator by binding and activating the G protein-coupled receptors GALR1, GALR2 and GALR3. Reported actions include contraction of smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal and genitourinary tracts and regulation of growth hormone and insulin release and adrenal secretion, as well as effects on feeding, pain and mood. Galanin expression is strongly upregulated in injured neurons, and a variant in the gene has been associated with familial temporal lobe epilepsy, so it is studied in epilepsy, neuropathic pain and metabolic research.
