Description

Human Gd-IgA1 ELISA Kit

Human Gd-IgA1 ELISA kits are used to detect Galactose-Deficient IgA1 (Gd-IgA1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Gd-IgA1 is galactose-deficient immunoglobulin A1, a form of IgA1 in which the O-linked glycans of the hinge region lack the terminal galactose, leaving exposed N-acetylgalactosamine residues. This altered glycosylation arises from reduced activity of the galactosyltransferase C1GALT1 or its chaperone Cosmc in IgA-producing B cells. The exposed glycans form a neoepitope that can be recognised by IgG or IgA autoantibodies, which leads to the formation of immune complexes that circulate and deposit in the glomerular mesangium. This is considered the first step in the pathogenesis of IgA nephropathy. Elevated serum Gd-IgA1 has therefore been reported in IgA nephropathy and in IgA vasculitis, and it is studied as a biomarker and as a target for therapy.
