Description

Human GJb1 ELISA Kit

Human GJb1 ELISA kits are used to detect Gap Junction Protein Beta 1 (GJb1) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. GJb1 (gap junction protein beta 1, also connexin 32 or Cx32) is a connexin that forms the transmembrane channels, called connexons, of gap junctions. Each junction consists of clustered pairs of closely packed channels through which ions and small molecules pass directly from one cell to its neighbor, coupling cells electrically and metabolically. Connexin 32 is expressed in hepatocytes and other epithelial cells, and in myelinating Schwann cells and oligodendrocytes of the nervous system, where it provides a radial pathway across the myelin sheath. Variants cause X-linked dominant Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1, a peripheral neuropathy marked by progressive weakness and muscle atrophy, so GJb1 is studied in peripheral nerve biology and liver physiology.
