Description

Human Gly ELISA Kit

Human Gly ELISA kits are used to detect Glycine (Gly) in serum, plasma, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. Gly, glycine, is the smallest of the proteinogenic amino acids, with a hydrogen atom as its side chain, and it is classed as non-essential because it can be synthesised from serine by serine hydroxymethyltransferase. It is a major component of collagen, where it appears at every third position, and a precursor for glutathione, haem, purines, creatine and bile acid conjugates. In the central nervous system, particularly the spinal cord and brainstem, it is a main inhibitory neurotransmitter acting on ionotropic glycine receptors, and it also acts as a coagonist at NMDA-type glutamate receptors. Disturbed glycine metabolism occurs in nonketotic hyperglycinaemia, and altered circulating glycine has been associated with obesity, insulin resistance and cardiovascular risk.
