Description

Human GR ELISA Kit

Human GR ELISA kits are used to detect Glutathione Reductase (GR) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. GR, or glutathione reductase (gene GSR), is a flavoprotein enzyme that uses NADPH to reduce glutathione disulfide (GSSG) back to reduced glutathione (GSH), which constitutes the major mechanism for maintaining a high GSH to GSSG ratio in the cytosol. It is present in the cytosol and mitochondria and is found at high levels in the liver, kidney and red blood cells. By regenerating GSH, it supports glutathione peroxidases and glutathione transferases and so protects cells from oxidative damage. The GSH to GSSG ratio is a widely used readout of redox status. Reduced activity has been associated with riboflavin deficiency, and variants cause a haemolytic anaemia triggered by oxidative stress or fava beans.
