Description

Human HbA1c ELISA Kit

Human HbA1c ELISA kits are used to detect Glycated Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in plasma and other biological samples. HbA1c is glycated hemoglobin A1c, formed when glucose attaches non-enzymatically to the N-terminal valine of the beta chain of hemoglobin in red blood cells. The reaction is slow and essentially irreversible, so the proportion of hemoglobin that is glycated reflects the average blood glucose concentration over the preceding two to three months, which corresponds to the lifespan of the red blood cell. For this reason, HbA1c is a standard marker for the diagnosis and long-term monitoring of diabetes mellitus. Higher levels are associated with a greater risk of microvascular complications, including retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy, and of cardiovascular disease. Conditions that alter red cell turnover, such as anemia and hemoglobin variants, can affect the result.
