Description

Human HBg2 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human HBg2 ELISA kits are used to detect Hemoglobin Gamma 2 (HBg2) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. HBg2, gamma-2 globin, is one of the two closely related fetal gamma globin chains, which combine with alpha chains to form fetal hemoglobin, or hemoglobin F. Fetal hemoglobin has a higher oxygen affinity than adult hemoglobin, which helps the fetus draw oxygen across the placenta. Gamma globin production normally declines after birth as the beta globin gene is switched on, although some adults retain persistent fetal hemoglobin. Variants in the gene have been associated with transient neonatal cyanosis, in which an unstable or low-affinity fetal hemoglobin chain causes cyanosis that resolves within a few months. Because raising gamma globin expression can ameliorate sickle cell disease and beta thalassaemia, HBg2 is studied in haemoglobinopathy research.
