Description

Human HBsAg ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human HBsAg ELISA kits are used to detect HepatitisB surface antigen (HBsAg) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. HBsAg, the hepatitis B surface antigen, also called the Australia antigen, is the envelope protein of the hepatitis B virus and is made in large excess over what is needed to assemble virions. It exists in small, medium and large forms and is secreted into the blood as non-infectious spherical and filamentous particles in addition to being a component of complete virions. The surface proteins mediate attachment to hepatocytes through binding to the NTCP receptor. HBsAg is the first viral marker to appear after infection, and its persistence for more than six months indicates chronic infection, which may lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Antibodies to HBsAg are protective, and the antigen is the basis of hepatitis B vaccines.
