Description

Human Holo TC ELISA Kit

Human Holo TC ELISA kits are used to detect Holotranscobalamin (Holo TC) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Holo TC, holotranscobalamin, is the biologically active fraction of vitamin B12 in the circulation, consisting of cobalamin bound to the carrier protein transcobalamin. Only about 10 to 20 percent of serum B12 is carried in this form, the rest being bound to haptocorrin, which is not available to most cells. Holotranscobalamin is taken up by cells through the transcobalamin receptor CD320, delivering cobalamin for its two coenzyme roles, in methionine synthase and methylmalonyl-CoA mutase. Because it reflects the B12 that tissues can actually use, it is considered an early marker of impaired B12 status, and low values may indicate deficiency before total B12 falls. It is used in assessing anaemia, neuropathy, cognitive decline and elevated homocysteine.
