Description

Human HTN3 ELISA Kit

Human HTN3 ELISA kits are used to detect Histatin 3 (HTN3) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates, saliva and other biological samples. HTN3, histatin 3, is a cationic, histidine-rich peptide secreted by the salivary glands and found mainly in the saliva of humans and higher primates. Histatins are considered major precursors of the enamel pellicle, the protective protein film on tooth surfaces. They fall into antimicrobial members, such as histatin 5, which is produced from histatin 3 by proteolytic cleavage and acts against Candida albicans, and cell-activating members. Histatin 3 is mostly involved in cell migration and wound healing in the oral cavity and also stimulates cell proliferation after binding to a heat shock protein on the cell surface. Because histatins support oral mucosal defence and healing, HTN3 is studied in oral health, periodontal disease, saliva composition and wound repair.
