Description

Human iC3b ELISA Kit

Human iC3b ELISA kits are used to detect ComplementiC3b (iC3b) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. iC3b is the inactivated form of complement fragment C3b, generated when the serine protease factor I cleaves C3b in the presence of cofactors such as factor H, membrane cofactor protein (CD46) and complement receptor 1. Although it can no longer form the C3 convertase and so no longer amplifies the complement cascade, iC3b remains covalently attached to the surface of pathogens, immune complexes and apoptotic cells and acts as a potent opsonin. It is recognized by the integrin receptors CR3 (CD11b/CD18) and CR4 on phagocytes, which promotes phagocytosis and clearance. iC3b levels in plasma serve as a marker of complement activation and consumption, and they have been associated with infection, autoimmune diseases such as lupus.
