Description

Human IMA ELISA Kit

Human IMA ELISA kits are used to detect Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. IMA, ischaemia-modified albumin, is a form of serum albumin whose amino-terminal region has been altered after exposure to ischaemia and reactive oxygen species, so that its capacity to bind transition metals such as cobalt is reduced. The change affects the N-terminal residues of albumin, which normally form a high-affinity metal-binding site, and can occur within minutes of an ischaemic event. IMA is therefore a modified form of albumin rather than a separate gene product. Raised levels have been associated with myocardial ischaemia and have been studied as an early marker, and increases have also been reported in stroke and kidney disease, so IMA is interpreted as a general indicator of oxidative stress and ischaemia.
