Description

Human JUP ELISA Kit

Human JUP ELISA kits are used to detect Junction Plakoglobin (JUP) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. JUP, junction plakoglobin (also called gamma-catenin), is a common junctional plaque protein of the armadillo family that is found in both desmosomes and adherens junctions. The membrane-associated plaques are architectural elements in a strategic position to influence the arrangement and function of both the cytoskeleton and the cells within tissue, and plakoglobin's presence in desmosomes and intermediate junctions suggests it plays a central role in their structure. It can replace beta-catenin in E-cadherin/catenin complexes that couple cadherins to the actin cytoskeleton, serves as a substrate for VE-PTP to stimulate VE-cadherin function in endothelial cells, and may promote axon outgrowth. Variants cause Naxos disease and arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia, so JUP is studied in heart, skin and cell adhesion biology.
