Description

Human KERA ELISA Kit

Human KERA ELISA kits are used to detect Keratocan (KERA) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. KERA, keratocan, is a small leucine-rich keratan sulfate proteoglycan expressed mainly in the corneal stroma, where it is produced by keratocytes. It is thought to be important in developing and maintaining corneal transparency and in the structure of the stromal collagen matrix, by regulating collagen fibril spacing and organisation. Variants cause autosomal recessive cornea plana 2, a severe ocular disorder with flattened corneal curvature, hyperopia, hazy corneal limbus and opacities in the corneal parenchyma, sometimes with iris malformations and a slit-like pupil. KERA is therefore studied as a marker of keratocyte differentiation and corneal matrix integrity, and its expression has been examined in corneal wound healing and in keratoconus.
