Description

Human KRT15 ELISA Kit

Human KRT15 ELISA kits are used to detect Keratin 15 (KRT15) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. KRT15, keratin 15, is a type I cytoskeletal keratin that forms heteropolymers with the type II keratin KRT5 to assemble the intermediate filament network of epithelial cells. It is expressed in the basal layer of stratified epithelia and notably in hair follicle bulge stem cells, foregut basal progenitors and intestinal crypt cells, where the network promotes the mechanical resilience of undifferentiated cells. In basal epithelial cells KRT15 acts in opposition to KRT14, which promotes differentiation, whereas KRT15 maintains the progenitor state and supports proliferation. Because of this, KRT15 is widely used as a marker of epithelial and hair follicle stem cells, and it is studied in stem cell and cancer biology.
