Description

Human LZMc ELISA Kit

Human LZMc ELISA kits are used to detect Lysozyme C (LZMc) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. LZMc, lysozyme C, also called muramidase, is a small, highly stable enzyme of about 14 kDa that hydrolyzes the beta-1,4 glycosidic bond between N-acetylmuramic acid and N-acetylglucosamine in bacterial peptidoglycan, particularly of Gram-positive bacteria. It is a key component of innate immune defense, secreted by neutrophils, macrophages, Paneth cells and epithelial cells, and found in tears, saliva, airway fluid, milk and mucus. Lysozyme also has non-enzymatic antimicrobial and immunomodulatory activity. Serum and urinary lysozyme levels reflect the turnover of myeloid and monocytic cells, and raised levels have been associated with sarcoidosis, inflammatory bowel disease, monocytic leukemia and kidney tubular injury, while mutations in the gene cause hereditary amyloidosis.
