Description

Human MEP1b ELISA Kit

Human MEP1b ELISA kits are used to detect Meprin A Beta (MEP1b) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. MEP1b, the meprin beta subunit, is a zinc-dependent membrane metallopeptidase of the astacin family that is abundant in the brush border of the kidney and intestine. It sheds many membrane-bound proteins from the cell surface and prefers acidic amino acids at the P1' position. Its known substrates include IL-1 beta, IL-18, E-cadherin, ADAM10, procollagens I and III, tenascin-C and several growth factors, which links the enzyme to inflammation and extracellular matrix remodelling. MEP1b can also cleave the amyloid precursor protein and release neurotoxic amyloid beta peptides. Altered meprin beta activity has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease, kidney injury, fibrosis and Alzheimer disease, so it is studied as a regulator of proteolysis and tissue turnover.
