Description

Human NFASC ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human NFASC ELISA kits are used to detect Neurofascin (NFASC) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. NFASC, or neurofascin, is a cell adhesion protein of the immunoglobulin superfamily that binds the cytoskeletal adaptor ankyrin. It is expressed as several isoforms in neurons and glia and may be involved in neurite extension, axonal guidance, synaptogenesis, myelination and neuron-glia interactions. A glial isoform, neurofascin 155, and the neuronal isoform, neurofascin 186, are essential for the organisation of nodes of Ranvier and the paranodal junctions that support fast, saltatory conduction along myelinated axons. Mutations in NFASC cause a recessive neurodevelopmental disorder with central and peripheral motor dysfunction, and autoantibodies against neurofascin isoforms have been found in some patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy and related disorders.
