Description

Human NID ELISA Kit

Human NID ELISA kits are used to detect Nidogen (NID) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. NID, nidogen, here corresponding to nidogen-1 or entactin, is a sulfated glycoprotein found in basement membranes throughout the body. It binds tightly to laminin and also to collagen IV and perlecan, acting as a bridge that links the laminin and collagen networks and so helps stabilise the basement membrane structure. Through this role it probably contributes to interactions between cells and the extracellular matrix, and it takes part in processes such as tissue development, angiogenesis and wound repair. Nidogen can be cleaved by proteases and released into the circulation, and altered levels of nidogen fragments have been reported in fibrosis, kidney disease and certain cancers, so the protein is studied as an indicator of basement membrane turnover.
