Description

Human NPPB ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human NPPB ELISA kits are used to detect Natriuretic peptide precursor B (NPPB) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. NPPB encodes the precursor of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), a cardiac hormone synthesized mainly by ventricular cardiomyocytes as preproBNP and cleaved into the biologically active 32-amino-acid BNP and the inactive N-terminal fragment NT-proBNP. BNP binds the natriuretic peptide receptor NPR1, raising intracellular cGMP, and it regulates cardio-renal homeostasis by promoting natriuresis, diuresis and vasorelaxation while inhibiting renin and aldosterone secretion. It may also act as an antifibrotic factor in the heart, and the clearance receptor NPR3 removes it from the circulation. Because secretion increases when the ventricular wall is stretched, raised BNP and NT-proBNP levels have been associated with heart failure, where they correlate with severity and prognosis.
