Description

Human NRGN ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human NRGN ELISA kits are used to detect Neurogranin (NRGN) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. NRGN is a small, postsynaptic calmodulin-binding protein expressed mainly in forebrain neurons, particularly in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus. It is a substrate of protein kinase C and binds calmodulin in the absence of calcium, so it acts as a third messenger in protein kinase C-mediated cascades during synaptic development and remodeling. In this way NRGN shapes calcium and calmodulin signaling at synapses, processes that underlie synaptic plasticity, learning and memory. Because NRGN is released from damaged synapses, its level in cerebrospinal fluid and blood has been studied as a marker of synaptic dysfunction and may be altered in Alzheimer disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.
