Description

Human OPA1 ELISA Kit

Human OPA1 ELISA kits are used to detect Optic Atrophy 1 (OPA1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. OPA1 (optic atrophy 1) is a dynamin-related GTPase located in the inner mitochondrial membrane and intermembrane space and expressed in all tissues, with notable importance in retinal ganglion cells. It mediates fusion of the inner mitochondrial membranes, shapes the cristae and helps maintain respiratory chain function, and it also protects against cytochrome c release during apoptosis. It exists as a membrane-anchored long form and shorter soluble forms generated by proteolytic cleavage in response to stress. Mutations in OPA1 are the most common cause of dominant optic atrophy, with progressive loss of vision, and some variants cause multisystem syndromes. OPA1 is therefore studied in mitochondrial dynamics, ageing and neurodegeneration.
