Description

Human OPTC ELISA Kit

Human OPTC ELISA kits are used to detect Opticin (OPTC) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. OPTC (opticin, also oculoglycan) is a secreted small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan found in the vitreous humor of the eye and in other tissues such as cartilage. It binds collagen fibrils and may be involved in collagen fiber organization through regulation of other members of the small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycan family. Opticin inhibits angiogenesis in the vitreous and so represses neovascularization, which makes it of interest in retinal disease research, particularly proliferative diabetic retinopathy and age-related macular degeneration. It may also help stabilize the vitreous gel structure, and in cartilage it may protect collagen from degradation. Altered opticin levels in the vitreous have been reported with age and eye disease.
