Description

Human OX ELISA Kit

Human OX ELISA kits are used to detect Orexin (OX) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. OX, orexin, also called hypocretin, refers to two neuropeptides, orexin-A and orexin-B, that are cleaved from a single precursor, prepro-orexin. They are produced by a small group of neurons in the lateral hypothalamus that project widely through the brain, and they act on the G protein-coupled receptors OX1R and OX2R, orexin-A binding both with high affinity. Orexins promote and stabilise wakefulness and regulate food intake, and they appear to coordinate responses in energy metabolism, autonomic function, hormonal balance and body fluid regulation. Loss of orexin-producing neurons or low orexin levels causes narcolepsy type 1, marked by excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy and fragmented sleep, and cerebrospinal fluid orexin-A is used as a diagnostic indicator.
