Description

Human OXM ELISA Kit

Human OXM ELISA kits are used to detect Oxyntomodulin (OXM) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. Oxyntomodulin is a 37-amino-acid peptide hormone produced from proglucagon in the intestinal L-cells and released together with GLP-1 and PYY after food intake, in proportion to the calories consumed. It consists of the glucagon sequence with a short carboxy-terminal extension and acts as a dual agonist of the GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, reducing food intake, increasing energy expenditure and inhibiting gastric acid secretion. Because of these effects on appetite and energy balance, oxyntomodulin is studied in obesity and type 2 diabetes, and dual-agonist drugs have been modelled on it. Circulating levels rise after meals and have been reported to change after bariatric surgery.
