Description

Human PARK2 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human PARK2 ELISA kits are used to detect Parkinson Disease Protein 2 (PARK2) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PARK2, also known as parkin and encoded by the PRKN gene, is an E3 ubiquitin ligase that works within a multiprotein complex to attach ubiquitin to substrate proteins. Substrates include VDAC1, mitofusins, TOMM20, MIRO1 and BCL2, and depending on context it mediates monoubiquitination or polyubiquitin chains of different linkage types. Parkin helps clear abnormally folded or damaged proteins and, together with PINK1, promotes the removal of damaged mitochondria by mitophagy, thereby supporting mitochondrial quality control. Loss-of-function variants are a well-established cause of early-onset autosomal recessive Parkinson disease, in which dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra are lost, so parkin is widely studied in neurodegeneration research.
