Description

Human PEA ELISA Kit

Human PEA ELISA kits are used to detect Pseudomonas Exotoxin A (PEA) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PEA, Pseudomonas exotoxin A, is a secreted virulence factor produced by Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen of the lungs, wounds and burns. The toxin is a single polypeptide with receptor-binding, translocation and catalytic domains. After uptake by receptor-mediated endocytosis it is processed and transported to the cytosol, where it transfers an ADP-ribose group to elongation factor 2, halting protein synthesis and causing cell death. It is one of the main contributors to tissue damage in severe infection, and antibodies against it have been detected in patients with cystic fibrosis and other chronic infections. Truncated forms of the toxin are also used as the cytotoxic component of immunotoxins in cancer research.
