Description

Human PIP ELISA Kit

Human PIP ELISA kits are used to detect Prolactin Induced Protein (PIP) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PIP (prolactin-induced protein), also known as gross cystic disease fluid protein 15 (GCDFP-15) or secretory actin-binding protein, is a small secreted glycoprotein produced by apocrine and other exocrine glands. It is found in breast cyst fluid, saliva, tears, seminal plasma and sweat, and its expression is regulated by prolactin and androgens. PIP binds actin and certain immunoglobulins and has been proposed to play roles in innate defence at mucosal and glandular surfaces and in fertility. Because it is expressed in apocrine epithelium, PIP is widely used as an immunohistochemical marker of breast and salivary gland origin in tumour diagnosis. Altered levels have also been explored in breast cancer research.
