Human PLAP / Placental alkaline phosphatase ELISA Kit

An alkaline phosphatase, a metalloenzyme that catalyses the hydrolysis of phosphoric acid monoesters, is encoded by PLAP. It is one of four alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes in a multigene family. PLAP is a homodimer with a catalytic site that contains one magnesium and two zinc ions, both of which are necessary for its enzymatic function. The liver is one of the main sources of this PLAP, so it's one of several indicators of liver injury in various clinical conditions. PLAP is primarily expressed in placental and endometrial tissue in pregnant women, but it has also been found to have strong ectopic expression in ovarian adenocarcinoma, serous cystadenocarcinoma, and other ovarian cancer cells. Hypophosphatasia and Obstructive Jaundice are two diseases linked to ALPP.
