Description

Human PLB ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human PLB ELISA kits are used to detect Phospholipase B (PLB) in tissue homogenates and other biological samples. PLB, or phospholipase B1, is a calcium-independent membrane-associated enzyme found mainly in the brush border of intestinal epithelial cells and also in the lung and some other tissues. It catalyses complete deacylation of phospholipids by removing both the sn-1 and sn-2 fatty acyl chains, with a preference for the sn-2 position, and it combines phospholipase and lysophospholipase activities. It also acts as a lipase on glycerolipids, hydrolysing diacylglycerols and triacylglycerols, and it may hydrolyse long-chain retinyl esters such as retinyl palmitate. Through these activities PLB is thought to contribute to the digestion of dietary phospholipids, glycerolipids and retinoids and to facilitate lipid absorption at the brush border. It is studied in lipid metabolism and intestinal physiology.
