Description

Human PROM1 ELISA Kit

Human PROM1 ELISA kits are used to detect Prominin 1 (PROM1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. PROM1, also known as CD133 or prominin-1, is a five-transmembrane glycoprotein that localises to plasma membrane protrusions such as microvilli and the primary cilium, where it binds cholesterol and helps organise apical membrane microdomains in epithelial cells. It is expressed on haematopoietic and neural stem and progenitor cells and in epithelia of tissues such as kidney and retina. In the developing retina it regulates photoreceptor disk morphogenesis, and it has also been linked to MAPK and Akt signalling, cell differentiation and apoptosis. Mutations cause retinal degenerations such as retinitis pigmentosa and Stargardt-like disease, while PROM1 is widely used as a marker of stem-like cells in tumours, where high expression has been associated with poorer outcome.
