Description

Human RB1 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human RB1 ELISA kits are used to detect Retinoblastoma Protein 1 (RB1) in tissue homogenates, cell lysates and other biological samples. RB1, the retinoblastoma protein, is a tumour suppressor and a key regulator of the G1 to S transition of the cell cycle, expressed in nearly all cell types. In its hypophosphorylated state it binds E2F transcription factors, blocking their transactivation domain and recruiting chromatin-modifying enzymes to repress E2F-responsive genes. Phosphorylation by cyclin-dependent kinases releases E2F and triggers entry into S phase, so the phosphorylation state of RB1 serves as a readout of proliferative signalling. RB1 also participates in differentiation, apoptosis and DNA damage responses. Inactivating mutations of the gene cause the childhood eye tumour retinoblastoma and are frequent in osteosarcoma, small cell lung cancer and other tumours, making RB1 a central target in cancer research.
