Description

Human REG3a ELISA Kit

Human REG3a ELISA kits are used to detect Regenerating Islet Derived Protein 3 Alpha (REG3a) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. REG3a, also called HIP or PAP, is a secreted C-type lectin of the Reg family that is produced mainly by Paneth cells and enterocytes of the small intestine, and in smaller amounts by the pancreas and skin keratinocytes. Its expression is induced by inflammation, by IL-22 and IL-17 and by signals from the gut microbiota. REG3a binds the peptidoglycan of Gram-positive bacteria and, after proteolytic activation, assembles into hexameric pores that permeabilize the bacterial membrane, so it helps keep bacteria away from the epithelial surface. Raised levels have been associated with pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, graft versus host disease of the gut and some cancers, and it is studied as a marker of intestinal damage.
