Description

Human RL ELISA Kit

Human RL ELISA kits are used to detect Reelin (RL) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. RL is reelin, a large secreted glycoprotein that works as an extracellular matrix serine protease and is released by pioneer neurons such as Cajal-Retzius cells. It guides the layering of neurons in the cerebral cortex and cerebellum by coordinating cell positioning during brain development, and it regulates microtubule function and neuronal migration. Reelin binds the lipoprotein receptors VLDLR and LRP8 (ApoER2), which induces phosphorylation of the adaptor DAB1 and modulates tau phosphorylation, and in the adult brain it supports synaptic plasticity and learning. Loss of reelin function causes the reeler phenotype in mice, with ataxia and tremor, and in humans a form of lissencephaly. Reduced reelin has also been reported in schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and Alzheimer disease.
