Description

Human sC5b-9 ELISA Kit (Small Sample Volume)

Human sC5b-9 ELISA kits are used to detect Soluble Terminal Complement Complex C5b-9 (sC5b-9) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. sC5b-9 is the soluble terminal complement complex, formed when the membrane attack complex of the complement system, made of C5b, C6, C7, C8 and several C9 molecules, assembles in the fluid phase and becomes bound to regulatory proteins such as vitronectin and clusterin instead of inserting into a cell membrane. When it assembles on a target cell membrane, the same complex forms a pore that lyses susceptible pathogens and can damage host cells at sublytic levels, triggering inflammatory signaling. Raised levels have been associated with lupus, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, sepsis, transplant rejection, preeclampsia and ischemic injury.
