Description

Human SCCA1 ELISA Kit

Human SCCA1 ELISA kits are used to detect Squamous Cell Carcinoma Antigen 1 (SCCA1) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, cell culture supernatants and other biological samples. SCCA1, encoded by SERPINB3, is a member of the ovalbumin-type serpin family and is normally expressed in the stratified squamous epithelium of the skin, tongue, esophagus and cervix. It is mainly an intracellular protein that inhibits papain-like cysteine proteases such as cathepsins L, S and K, which may help to protect cells from protease-mediated damage. SCCA1 also suppresses apoptosis, including UV-induced cell death through inhibition of JNK1 activity, and may modulate immune responses against tumor cells. It is overexpressed in squamous cell carcinomas, including those of the cervix, lung, head and neck, and esophagus, and circulating levels are used as a tumor marker. Levels may also rise in psoriasis and other inflammatory skin disease.
