Description

Human SCNN1a ELISA Kit

Human SCNN1a ELISA kits are used to detect Amiloride Sensitive Sodium Channel Subunit Alpha (SCNN1a) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates and other biological samples. SCNN1a, also known as alpha-ENaC, is one of the three pore-forming subunits of the heterotrimeric epithelial sodium channel, which is amiloride-sensitive and not gated by voltage. The channel operates in the apical membrane of epithelial cells in the distal nephron, colon, lung airways and sweat ducts, where it allows sodium to flow in from the extracellular fluid, with water following osmotically. In the kidney it is central to sodium reabsorption and so to blood pressure and fluid balance, and in the airways it helps set airway surface liquid volume needed for mucus clearance. Loss-of-function variants cause pseudohypoaldosteronism type 1B, a salt-wasting disorder, and altered ENaC activity has been implicated in hypertension and cystic fibrosis lung disease.
