Description

Human SDMA ELISA Kit

Human SDMA ELISA kits are used to detect Symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. SDMA, or symmetric dimethylarginine, is a methylated derivative of arginine released during breakdown of proteins whose arginine residues were methylated by type II protein arginine methyltransferases such as PRMT5. Free SDMA is eliminated almost entirely by the kidneys, with little metabolism, so its plasma concentration is closely related to glomerular filtration rate. Unlike its asymmetric isomer ADMA, it does not directly inhibit nitric oxide synthase, but it can compete with arginine for cellular uptake and so may reduce nitric oxide production. Increased SDMA has been associated with chronic kidney disease, where it can rise earlier than creatinine, and with cardiovascular risk and mortality.
