Description

Human SEPP1 ELISA Kit

Human SEPP1 ELISA kits are used to detect Selenoprotein P1, Plasma (SEPP1) in serum, plasma and other biological samples. SEPP1, or selenoprotein P, is the main selenium-carrying protein in plasma, produced mainly by the liver and also by the kidney, brain and other tissues, and it is unusual because it contains multiple selenocysteine residues, up to ten in its longest form. It transports selenium to peripheral tissues, in particular to the brain and testis, through receptors such as ApoER2 and megalin, and so supports the synthesis of selenoproteins such as glutathione peroxidases. Plasma selenoprotein P is used as a marker of selenium status. Altered levels have been associated with selenium deficiency, type 2 diabetes, liver disease, cardiovascular disease and some cancers, and elevated SEPP1 has been linked to insulin resistance.
